Cross Plains is a village to have and to hold. Regardless of the direction you approach the village, you will enjoy the beauty of the tree-lined hillsides as they surround the village. Flowing through the center of town is the Black Earth Creek, one of the state's best cold water trout streams. Yet Cross Plains is only 20 minutes from Madison, the State Capital, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Cross Plains is proud of the people that have chosen to call it home. Community pride is evident when driving down the residential streets or stopping at one of the many community events ( such as the Lions Club Trout Days, The Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce Memorial Day Chicken Barbeque, a spring and fall car show, and our very own World's Fair ). Cross Plains is proud of its business community. Several Cross Plains businesses have factories or branches throughout the country, but still choose to call this community their home. Cross Plains main street businesses strive to know their customers on a first-name basis and go out of their way to serve their customers and the community. Just a few minutes west of Madison on Highway 14, Cross Plains offers visitors a picturesque village nestled in the hills formed years ago by glaciers. In fact, the impressive Ice Age Trail runs directly through our village. Cross Plains is a community known for its parks, hiking trails, the Black Earth Creek, schools, and beautiful homes and businesses that line the streets.
